your joints will thank you

after trying this workout mat!

Studies have found that exercise improves your pain threshold. But what do you do when you’re experiencing a lot of discomfort while exercising?

A new workout mat is here to help! “My Comfort Mat” was designed to strategically allow you to have both stability as well as enough cushion to alleviate your joint pain.

My friend and My Comfort Mat founder Karen Eidem grew up traveling the world, experiencing different cultures, philosophies, and religions. On one of her adventures, she was introduced to yoga and fell in love with how it inspired health and harmony in life.

Karen moved to the U.S. from Ecuador when she was 18 to attend college. After graduating, she met her husband Justin, and settled in Minnesota. Karen continued to practice yoga, teaching in her spare time. When a sales territory for Justin’s position opened in Brookings, SD, they jumped at the chance to be closer to family.

The move also allowed Karen to leave her finance career behind and follow her lifelong passion for becoming a yoga and fitness instructor at Prairie Soul Studio in Brookings.

“I’ve been teaching for quite a while, said Eidem, “and I’ve always observed a need. People who had sore knees, tender joints, or were recovering from surgery would complain about discomfort during practice. So, to me, it was like, “What can I do to alleviate that pain without having people drag in extra props or blankets or use a mat that’s so thick it compromises their balance?”

That’s when the idea of My Comfort Mat was born.

To not just create another fitness mat, but something that served a need – a community. Karen spent a year-and-a-half developing the perfect cushion ratio and placement of the raised areas. She and her husband Justin took various models and cut out multiple other mats to create the best possible option.

The finished product features a 14-millimeter thick section in the shape of the infinity symbol that allows you to strategically position yourself on it, alleviating whatever joint-based pain you’re experiencing.

The mat is not exclusively for yoga. It’s good for anything active like Pilates, core-fit workouts, stretching, and high-intensity workouts.

“Fitness should be about letting go of stress,” Eidem said. “It should be about enjoying the practice. But if you’re suffering through, then it defeats the purpose.”

But don’t just take our word for it, try it for yourself today! You can purchase My Comfort Mat at Prairie Soul Studio in Brookings or at mycomfortmat.com.
